Kajsa Renée at Birth

Kajsa was born just before midnight on May 23, 2003. It was a long day in the hospital, but both Kajsa and Sara made it just fine. Most of the hospital staff spoke English pretty well, and our Swedish was good enough to handle the couple of people who weren't as good with English, so it went pretty smoothly. Sara nine months pregnant
Here's a picture of Sara the day before Kajsa was born. This is about as pregnant as you can get.
After the baby was born and Sara was recovering, the nurse asked if I wanted to take a picture of the placenta. The thought had never occurred to me. But I figured if she was asking then maybe that's something people usually do. So I took one. Since then, anybody who has found out I took a picture of the placenta considers it to be quite strange. But we have the picture, so I might as well post it. I've been told this picture is gross, so I won't show a thumbnail. If you want to see it, click here.
Kajsa's first picture
This is Kajsa's first picture after being born. Her head was still a bit misshappen at this point (like most newborns' heads), but it has gotten much more head-shaped since then.
We had shown up at the hospital at around 6:30 AM. Mom hadn't gotten much sleep the night before, and the baby didn't arrive until 11:44 PM. So it was a very long day, and the new mommy was quite tired. But it gave her a chance to take a nap with Kajsa.

Kajsa spent most of her first day sleeping. So did mommy and daddy.
She also spent time eating.

The baby outfits at the hospital looked sort of like karate outfits.
Daddy got to hold Kajsa.

And so did mom.
We even got a picture of Kajsa with the doctor who delivered her. We didn't actually meet Dr. Brynhildsen (a Norwegian name) until the day she was born. This picture was taken a couple days later when he came to check in on us.

Our family
Our friends Johan, Caroline, and Kajsa (whose name we chose for our daughter) came to visit us while we were in the hospital. Johan took the first picture of our whole family.
